  • What is Kinesio Tape?

Kinesio Tape is a cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive used to relax overused muscles and in rehabilitation to facilitate underused muscles. It was invented by a Japanese chiropractor, Dr. Kenzo Kase in the 1970s.

Kinesio taping has a few major functions. The first is to improve muscle contraction in weakened muscles. It also reduces muscle fatigue, over-extension and over contraction of muscles amd muscle cramping. Kinesio Tape also increases range of motion and relieves pain. Another function is to remove congestion to the flow of bodily fluids by improving blood and lymphatic circulation. It also reduces excess heat and chemical substances in tissue and inflammation in the skin and muscle.

Kinesio Tape also helps to correct joint problems by adjusting misalignment caused by spasm and shortened muscle, normalizes muscle tone and abnormality of fascia in joints, which also improves the range of motion and reducing pain and inflammation. During your next appointment, ask me if kinesio taping is right for you!
